The world is facing two urgent and interlinked crises -- climate change and the accelerating loss of biodiversity. Nowhere are the interlinkages of these two crises, and the solutions to them, clearer than in the tropical rainforests.

As the destruction of the world’s remaining rainforests accelerates, the need for action has never been more urgent. We, at Rainforest Foundation Norway (RFN), are therefore stepping up our efforts and are now looking for our new Knowledge and Learning Manager.

In this highly desirable position, you will play a pivotal role in shaping RFN's work by building and sharing knowledge and evidence that inform our strategies and actions. This will give you a unique chance to help increase the effectiveness and impact of RFN’s work and help RFN tackle one on the most pressing issues of our time.

Additionally, you will have the rewarding task of building the capacity of our dedicated and knowledgeable staff, empowering them to drive knowledge development and learning initiatives forward. Collaboration will be at the heart of your work, as you engage with stakeholders and colleagues across teams and departments to ensure a cohesive approach to our strategic objectives. As the Knowledge and Learning Manager you will have the following main responsibilities:

  • Contribute to improving the use of knowledge and evidence in RFN.
  • Develop and manage knowledge and learning efforts throughout the organization.
  • Manage RFN’s annual and long-term knowledge management plan, including RFN’s annual knowledge management budget.
  • Build knowledge management systems at RFN, including the development of digital infrastructure for knowledge work.
  • Support the use of learning from evaluations and research in programme/project adaptation and design.
  • Develop and lead RFN’s internal learning seminars and lectures.
  • Provide training and capacity building for relevant staff.
  • Play a central role in networking and collaborating with research communities (Norwegian and international) and other civil society organizations.
  • Some travel may be required.


  • Higher education, minimum at master's level, preferably a Ph.D.
  • Experience and expertise in knowledge management and the use of evaluations
  • Knowledge of social science quantitative and qualitative methods and good data skills
  • Experience with the development and implementation of digital systems/tools for knowledge management
  • Ability to lead organization-wide processes.
  • Ability to work independently with limited guidance from a manager.
  • Fluency in English, both verbally and in writing, is required.

It is also advantageous if you have:

  • Research competence and/or experience
  • Experience from the NGO-sector
  • Fluency in Norwegian and/or rainforest country languages are an asset.
